The 25th birthday of the World Wide Web!

As my denizens of the "Web Cave" know, Sir Tim Berners-Lee came up with the idea to link together every device on the Internet, regardless of type or operating system, with one unified protocol - HTTP.  It was on yesterday's date, 25 years ago that Sir Tim proposed this in an email to friends and colleagues.  Interestingly enough, this was just one of his side projects.  He had two other main projects he was working on at the time for CERN.
The Internet has been around since the 1960's, but it was Sir Tim's idea in 1989 that led to the WWW - the way we primarily view Internet content today.

the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.  

Of course, at that time people did not call it World War I - it was just The World War - "the war to end all wars".

Did you know that KC has the only national memorial to World War I?  It has a really awesome museum that opened up a few years ago - underground, beneath the Liberty Memorial itself.  There is a new exhibit starting there this weekend.

Above ground, the Memorial tower is flanked by two large sphinxes, each with its massive wings wrapped around its head:







Future faces the West, shielding its eyes from the uncertainties awaiting at home and abroad after the war.











Memory faces the East, toward Europe and the War, and hides its eyes from the horrible death and destruction just past.
