Two important birthdays (anniversaries) were yesterday! The first is...
The 25th birthday of the World Wide Web!

The Internet has been around since the 1960's, but it was Sir Tim's idea in 1989 that led to the WWW - the way we primarily view Internet content today.

The other is...
the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.
Of course, at that time people did not call it World War I - it was just The World War - "the war to end all wars".
Above ground, the Memorial tower is flanked by two large sphinxes, each with its massive wings wrapped around its head:

Future faces the West, shielding its eyes from the uncertainties awaiting at home and abroad after the war.

Memory faces the East, toward Europe and the War, and hides its eyes from the horrible death and destruction just past.
Check out the website, and sometime make sure you go visit! You can see great views of KC from the observation platform, and also from the top of the tower.
