My personality type is ISTJ.

Apparently, I am a "perfect 10" on the introvert scale! | |
ISTJ's tend to be no-frills people. We are steady, dependable, and detail-oriented. We tend to like things organized, down-to-earth, and practical. ISTJ's value sticking with what is tried and true - playing by the rules and going with what we know works. We are reliable and loyal - you can depend on us to see things through to completion. Another famous ISTJ was President Harry Truman.

Yes, this is me! Almost... |
The description of an ISTJ fits me almost perfectly. I am really logical and thorough. I like to do detailed work like proofreading. I always prefer to stay with what works instead of trying new things -
unless it can be demonstrated to me that the new way is better - and then I'm all on-board. I'm good at step-by-step processes or instructions - which makes sense, given that I used to teach math and computer programming. I don't call attention to myself, and I would prefer to be alone or with one or two other people in a quiet setting than at a noisy gathering of many. One thing that doesn't fit - even though I need to have things organized in my head, my desk is almost always a huge mess, as is my workbench, my garage, etc. I do know where most everything is though. The hobbies I like are mostly solitary in nature.

In a group setting, I tend to fit in the best as a behind-the-scenes worker bee. I contribute ideas to the group, but I need time to think first - so it works well for me to find out what the tasks are ahead of time so I can go to a team meeting prepared. I am perfectly content to let the more outgoing team members be up front in the spotlight, and I get a kick out of listening to the more creative idea people - though it can take me a while to warm up to their ideas. Sometimes it is my job to reign them in a little bit so we can realistically accomplish something. If I'm forced into a spotlight role or outside-the-box role, I can sometimes get overwhelmed! People sometimes think that introverts like me are unfriendly or stuck up, which is usually not the case - we just have a different style. At times I am probably seen as being resistant to change - since I like to follow processes that I know have already worked. I'm good with change, as long as it is for a good reason and I understand it, even though I won't usually be the one instigating it. I kind of think that if my dad (extrovert) and I had understood each other better, we would have had more fun together. Growing up, I frequently just thought he was annoying, and wanted him to stop talking - and I'm pretty sure he used to wish I would open up and be more of a conversationalist with him. Later in life, I think we did finally start to figure each other out. :)

Extra bonus tidbit: Since my preference of Sensing over Intuition was only 1% (basically none), I am probably also an INTJ. The description for INTJ is similar to that of ISTJ - with an added interest in the theory behind things - finding patterns and perspectives. This fits well with my math background, and also with my interest in design. I am usually interested in how things are connected or related.
